My 15th Anniversary

Today is my work birthday! I have officially been in marketing for 15 years!!!!

I guess one would call it an anniversary. I’ve never really been big on observing anniversaries (Venus is in Aquarius) but I think this is the perfect time to celebrate.

15 years is a huge milestone! And while there have definitely been some minor detours, I have been really happy in this field.

I studied Journalism with a PR emphasis in college. My goal was to be a Publicist. My dream job was working for NASA - but alas… the universe had a different path for me.

My second dream job was to work in the arts and I was lucky enough to get my first internship as the Marketing & Communications Intern for the LA County Department of Arts & Culture (it was known as the LA County Arts Commission back then). My main work was focused on the marketing and PR for the Ford Amphitheatre’s summer season and it was such a blast. I learned so much, worked with a variety of artists, was exposed to so much amazing music, dance, theatre, film, and visual art - my heart nearly burst open.

I’ve also had many wonderful mentors, all of which have empowered and uplifted me to have high standards for my work. Each of my mentors was a woman who had her own PR or Marketing company. Their example has helped shape my drive for career empowerment and independence.

I excelled at being a Publicist and was able to transition into doing all the different marketing tasks for clients. My time in nonprofit arts gave me valuable fundraising, grant writing, and other nonprofit development experience.

Plus, I have been able to work with artists who are activists and organizations filled with social justice warriors, working to make positive change in the community and the world.

I have met so many amazing people that I’m not even upset that NASA wasn’t in the cards for me.

I won’t say that it was always easy. There was a point around 2011 when I had a lot of self-doubts but I stuck with it and decided to get an MBA and now, I know that I made the right decisions for myself.

It hasn’t all been sunshine and roses but it has been such a beautiful blessing.

I love being in marketing. I love being able to help others reach their goals. I love that I have been able to make a space in this field that is honest, ethical, creative, strategic, inclusive, and accessible. There is never a dull moment and I am constantly learning and growing.

To you, the reader - thank you for being here. You are part of my journey and allow me to be my true self just by your support and interest in what I do. It is just as valuable as any monetary sales I receive.

I hope that if you need anything from me, that I’ll be able to help you as well. Feel free to reach out. I’m sure there is plenty that we can learn from each other.

I am SO looking forward to another 15 years of doing work that I love and being courageous enough to let go of any projects that I don’t. I want to continue to move forward bravely and with excitement for what’s to come.

Cheers to 15 Years!
